Who knew I needed slippers?
Slippers were not very high on my crafting to-do list. But, my crafty friend K found a sheepskin at the dump. It was dyed bright blue. She gave it to S, my less crafty friend who found that she needed a bit more motivation to turn them into slippers. So we had a craft date.
It turned out to be a really fast and satisfying project. I traced my foot onto the leather side of the sheepskin and cut it out. I used the sole as a pattern for the top–made out of a black felted wool sweater. Basically the sole and the upper pattern pieces looked pretty much the same, except I cut a slit in the center from the heel to about a quarter of the way up in the upper for my foot to slip in. I sewed the pieces together using sinew, just because we had some, thought I could also have used upholstery thread or any other heavy duty thread. I had a really sweet leather needle that I don’t often find a use for.
The end result was a super warm and comfy slipper, adorned with one simple button on each ankle.
